What kind of animal are we ideal owners for – Dog or Cat?

Bruna Fernandes

Would they be better cat owners? Or would they have more availability for a dog?

There are people who have always had dogs as pets and who don't see themselves as cat owners.

There are those who are more inclined to have a feline at home and don't have time for a dog.

Then there are those who own dogs and cats and have a super family full of bigeyes!

It is important to be aware of our lifestyle and realize that we will make a dog or a feline happier!

When we adopt a new little friend, discover how to know if they will be the ideal owners for dogs or cats!

Time

Dog

The time we have available for our dogs is something to consider when adopting a new friend.

If we have a hectic pace of life that prevents us from being at home much of the day or even spending seasons outside, then having a dog may not be an option.

Dogs are emotionally dependent on their owners. They need attention, company, play and outdoor walks.

Spending a lot of time indoors can make our dog depressed or unload his energies on destroying the house!

Cat

Cats, on the other hand, are more independent animals and deal better with loneliness.

They spend their time alone at home and always have clean water and food available, a litter box to use, they are quite autonomous.

The breed of cat we choose is also important, as there are those that need more attention.

This is the case of the Siamese , which needs the presence of its owner and your attention.

Money

Dog

With dogs, spending on food and hygiene is higher.
They need to be bathed more often and if it is a dog with a lot of fur, trips to the clipping will be recurrent.
Returning to the topic of companionship, if we don't have time for our little friend, we will probably have to request pet sitting or dog walking services, thus increasing our monthly costs.

Cat

Our financial availability is also a very important aspect.
A cat generally has less monthly expenses than a dog.
In addition to food expenses, which are normally lower for felines,
Cats also don't need so much care, taking care of their own hygiene.

Lifestyle

The way we like to spend our free time should also influence the choice of our pet.

For independent or homely people who like to be quiet at home, the company of a cat is more appropriate.
There are also dogs that fit into this scenario, such as the French Bulldog or the Chihuahua , as these animals are calm and do not require much physical activity.

In case we like to exercise outdoors, an athletic dog can be a great companion and extra motivation.

There are also dogs that adapt more to large families and with children, as they are docile and playful.
Good examples of this are the Beagle and Labrador Retriever .

When we are looking for an animal that is also protective of our home, our choice must be a dog.
Examples of perfect breeds for home protection are the German Shepherd , the Belgian Shepherd and the Schnoodle which, despite being small, is always ready to defend its family.

Regardless of the animal we choose for our companion, what we must always keep in mind is that we must make them happy, never abandon them and give them love.

For all these faithful friends of ours need is for us to treat them with affection.
