Capstar Antiflea - Pills | NewPet

Treatment of flea infestations (C. felis) in cats and dogs.

Effects on fleas (Ctenocephalides felis) can be seen as early as 15-30 minutes after administration of the drug to the host animal. This coincides with the first ingestion of blood by the fleas after sufficient blood levels have been reached. An efficacy of 95% to 100% is observed during the first 6 hours and 100% efficacy is reached after 24 hours with no residual action.

Adverse reactions (frequency and severity)

- During the first hour after administration, the animal may scratch itself more than usual. This effect is caused by the reaction of the fleas to the veterinary medicinal product. In very rare cases in cats, this can present as transient signs of hyperactivity.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Capstar (nitenpyram) can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Tests in laboratory animals (rats and rabbits) did not show teratogenic or foetotoxic effects and the safety of the veterinary medicinal product was demonstrated in pregnant and lactating cats and bitches.

Important
Do not use in animals under 4 weeks of age or weighing less than 1 kg

The recommended minimum effective dose is 1 mg/kg, according to the following recommendations:

- One tablet should be administered   Capstar 11.4 mg   to cats and small dogs weighing between   1 kg   and   11kg   when a flea infestation is detected.

- One tablet should be administered   Capstar 57   to dogs weighing between   11 kg   and   57kg   and two tablets for dogs weighing more than   57 kg   when a flea infestation is detected.

The frequency of treatment depends on the degree of infestation. In the event of a severe flea infestation, it may be necessary to treat the animals every day or every other day until the infestation is controlled.

Treatment can be resumed if fleas reappear.

- No more than one treatment per day.
- The tablets should be taken orally with or without food.
- In order to improve palatability, the tablets can be hidden in a small amount of food immediately before administration.

- The drug has no persistent activity.
To prevent re-infestations, appropriate treatment is recommended to control the immature stages of the flea life cycle.
- The veterinarian must establish an appropriate treatment regimen.
