Clearium Antiseptic Shampoo | NewPet

The shampoo helps fight bacterial and fungal skin infections, suitable for dogs.

Clearium is a shampoo for dogs that deeply cleanses the skin. It is indicated for the treatment of superficial proliferation of Malassezia pachydermatis and control of its clinical signs in dogs.

Clearium is a pink/orange clear solution topical shampoo.

- For external use only.

- During shampoo application, make sure that the animal does not inhale the Veterinary Medicine or that it does not get into the animal's eyes, ear canal, nose or mouth. In the event of accidental contact with eyes, rinse with plenty of water. In case of occurrence and persistence of eye irritation, consult a veterinarian.

- Do not allow the animal to lick itself during shampooing and rinsing, or before it is dry.

- The safety of the veterinary medicinal product in animals below the age of five months has not been established.

- The safety of the veterinary medicinal product has not been established beyond six weeks of administration.

- Resistance to a particular class of antimicrobial veterinary medicinal products may develop as a result of frequent and repeated use of an antimicrobial agent of that class.

- An administration of the veterinary medicinal product that does not comply with the instructions in the SPC is likely to increase the prevalence of chlorhexidine-resistant bacteria or induce resistance in the skin fungus population.

1 ml contains:
Active substance(s) - Chlorhexidine digluconate, solution ........ 31.2 mg (corresponding to 17.5 mg of chlorhexidine)

excipients
Ponceau 4R (E124) 2.6 micrograms; Lauryl glucoside; Cocamidopropylbetaine; Glucone   δ -lactone (to regulate pH); Purified water

Contraindications:
- Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients.
- Diagnosis of Malassezia pachydermatis should be based on clinical examination, despite other dermatoses and confirmation of the presence of Malassezia pachydermatis in the skin.
- During pregnancy and lactation, assess the benefit/risk. Do not use on puppies under 5 months or longer than 6 weeks.

Drug interactions and other forms of interaction:
- Frequent shampooing may reduce the effectiveness of other topically applied veterinary medicines, such as ectoparasiticides.
- There are no data available to assess the interaction with other topically applied veterinary medicinal products.

Dosage and route of administration:
- For cutaneous use only.
- Administer the shampoo by topical application three times (three treatment sessions) a week for 2 weeks and then, if necessary, twice a week for 2 weeks and finally once a week for 2 weeks. If necessary, an additional application may be necessary in accordance with the instructions and the risk/benefit assessment carried out by the veterinarian.

Usage advice:
- Wet the animal carefully with clean water and apply the veterinary medicinal product in several spots. Apply an amount of the veterinary medicinal product proportional to the dog's body weight and hair length, in order to foam. Spread the veterinary medicinal product evenly over the entire surface of the coat and ensure to apply around the lips, under the tail and between the fingers. Massage the animal's body until foaming and rinse immediately.
- Repeat the operation a second time as before, but let it act for 10 minutes before rinsing the coat with clean water. Allow the dog's coat to dry naturally in a warm, draft-free environment.

Overdose (symptoms, emergency procedures, antidotes), (if necessary):
- In a tolerance study in dogs given five times the recommended therapeutic dose three days a week for four consecutive weeks, it showed only occasional mild skin reactions. Such reactions were transient, although they could last for several days while shampooing was in progress. No specific treatment was required.

Pharmacodynamic properties:
- Chlorhexidine digluconate is an antiseptic agent from the group of biguanides with fungicidal activity against yeasts, including Malassezia pachydermatis.
- The mode of action of chlorhexidine is concentration dependent. Chlorhexidine alters cell wall permeability. At low concentrations, low-molecular-weight substances leak out without the cell being irreversibly damaged. At higher concentrations, chlorhexidine penetrates the cell, causes precipitation of the cytoplasm, prevents membrane repair, and causes bacterial cell destruction.
