Lysine Aid Gel Cats - Nutriscience | NewPet

Recommended to reduce the severity of clinical symptoms in cats and kittens infected with herpes virus (FHV-1) and minimize their ability to spread.

The L-Lysine supplement for the control of Feline Herpes (FHV-1) in kittens and cats has been shown to inhibit the replication of Feline Herpes Virus (FHV-1) and can be used in the management of FHV-1 infection.

Feline rhinotracheitis virus (feline herpesvirus type 1 or FHV-1) causes an acute respiratory illness known as rhinotracheitis (or feline herpesvirus infection) with the virus affecting domestic and feral cats worldwide from 50% of domestic cats.

Feline herpes virus (FHV-1)

Infectious disease experts estimate that at least 80% of cats are infected with feline herpes virus during their lifetime. Once the initial infection is resolved, the virus becomes latent, and in stressful situations it can reactivate and cause respiratory and/or ocular pathology. Cats infected with FHV-1 are therefore chronically ill and permanent carriers of the infection. Typical symptoms include runny nose, sneezing, conjunctivitis, keratitis, chemosis, ulcers on the nose, lips, tongue and gums; and, generally speaking, fever, lethargy, and loss of appetite.

L-lysine

Lysine is an amino acid that, among other properties, has a competitive action with arginine, another amino acid that is essential for FHV-1 replication. By blocking arginine, L-lysine inhibits the ability of the virus to multiply. Recent clinical studies demonstrate the effectiveness of oral lysine in reducing both viral shedding and clinical symptoms associated with the virus.

Administer directly into the animal's mouth, paw or mix with a little feed.
Cats: 2 ml twice a day.
Kittens: 1 ml twice a day.

Start taking it one week before periods of stress and continue for at least 2 weeks afterwards.
1 Pump = 2 ml.
