Witazium Eye Supplement (Wyzium) | NewPet

Antioxidant nutritional supplementation to support ocular metabolism.

Complementary food for dogs and cats over 6 years old, antioxidant micronutrition for eye vision.

Witazium eye supplement helps, in dogs and cats over 6 years of age, to delay the onset and progression of lens opacification and maintain retinal functions.

Witazium is a supplement compatible with the dietary regimes of dogs and cats with   cardiac insufficiency   and or   kidney , due to the reduced levels of   phosphorus, potassium and sodium.

Wizium is now Witazium, the same product but now with a new name.

Lens opacification, retinal degeneration, physical asthenia.

"Oxidative stress" and the eyeball:
The eye or eyeball is a device very sensitive to aging due to its prolonged and intense exposure to sunlight and its high oxygen needs, associated with a high production of free radicals: the lens and retina are a “terrain” fertile for the appearance of oxidative “stress”.

This oxidative “stress” triggers, at the level of the lens, a change in the composition and structure of proteins which, as a result, give rise to the appearance of lens fibers (the lens) responsible for its opacification, and the oxidation of acids. fatty acids present in retinal cell membranes, leading to their premature alteration.

The lens and retina benefit from a very powerful natural antioxidant capacity so that under physiological conditions they can oppose this process.
As we age, these physiological antioxidants decrease.

Witazium is an association of vitamins (E and C), taurine (the most abundant antioxidant amino acid in the lens and retina), proanthocyanidins, trace elements (Zinc, Selenium, Chromium) and carotenoid pigments (lutein and zeaxanthin) to which the only primary antioxidant usable orally (SOD B ExtramelR) which allows maximizing the antioxidant protective defense mechanisms, thus allowing the recovery of high levels of natural antioxidant protection at the level of the retina.

Witazium was designed based on studies(1) that managed to quantify and define antioxidant micronutrients essential for maintaining ocular function in humans.
(1) Large-scale studies (AREDS, POLA, AREDS 2, ALIENOR).

Antioxidants:

Vitamin E :   Protects membranes made up of polyunsaturated fatty acids, subject to oxidative stress (mainly at the level of mitochondria) by preventing the proliferation of pyroxyl free radicals.
Vitamin C :   In addition to its natural antioxidant activity, it has a regenerating activity of vitamin E.
Zinc :   Present in strong concentrations in ocular, retinal and choroidal tissues, zinc allows the transformation of vitamin A into a light-catching pigment and interacts with Taurine(1).
Taurine :   It is the most abundant amino acid in the lens and retina, protecting photoreceptor cells from the negative effects caused by ultraviolet radiation. Exogenous Taurine supplementation ensures protective physiological levels, which naturally decrease with advancing age(2).
Selenium :   It is essential for the proper functioning of enzymes (including Glutathione peroxidase) that destroy free radicals.
Chromium :   It participates in the maintenance of ocular function, improving carbohydrate metabolism in diabetic animals(3).

Carotenoid Pigments:

Lutein – Zeaxanthin :   Physiologically, these two amino acids are present in high concentrations in the retina and lens, absorbing blue light (the most toxic radiation frequency for the eye) and preventing the massive production of the very harmful superoxide anion.   The daily intake of these two amino acids maintains or increases optical pigment density with the maintenance or even increase of visual performance, simultaneously making it possible to compensate for the decrease (associated with advancing age) in the natural conversion of lutein and zeaxanthin (4).

SOD B ExtramelR : The Superoxide dismutase selected for the Wyzium formulation incorporates acid-gastric protection to guarantee its activity/bioavailability even when administered orally. Upon reaching the intestinal lumen, Superoxide dismutase will activate the Nrf2/ARE pathway and from there ensure the endogenous expression of the three (3) most important antioxidant enzymes directly involved in the first line of defense against the superoxide anion: Superoxide dismutase , catalase and glutathione peroxidase (5)(6)(7).

This supplementation ensures the recovery of natural antioxidant defenses, in an optimal way, even allowing to delay the harmful effects of diabetes on the metabolism of the eyeball and therefore vision.
