Wyzium Eye Supplement Jar - Sofcanis | NewPet

Antioxidant nutritional supplement to support ocular metabolism.

Complementary food for dogs and cats over 6 years old, antioxidant micronutrients for eye health.

Wyzium eye supplement helps, in dogs and cats over 6 years of age, to delay the onset and progression of lens opacity and maintain retinal function.

Clouding of the lens, Retinal degeneration, Physical weakness.

Oxidative stress and the eyeball:
The eye, or eyeball, is a highly sensitive organ to aging due to its prolonged and intense exposure to sunlight and its high oxygen requirements, associated with a high production of free radicals: the lens and retina are a fertile ground for the appearance of oxidative stress.

This oxidative stress triggers, at the level of the lens, an alteration in the composition and structure of proteins which, consequently, gives rise to the appearance of lens fibers (the lenses) responsible for its opacity, and to the oxidation of fatty acids present in retinal cell membranes leading to their premature alteration.

The lens and retina benefit from a very powerful natural antioxidant capacity, enabling them, under physiological conditions, to counteract this process.
As we age, there is a decrease in these physiological antioxidants.

Wyzium is a combination of vitamins (E and C), taurine (the most abundant antioxidant amino acid in the lens and retina), proanthocyanidins, trace elements (zinc, selenium, chromium) and carotenoid pigments (lutein and zeaxanthin) to which the only primary antioxidant usable orally (SOD B Extramel®) has been added, which allows maximizing the protective antioxidant defense mechanisms, thus allowing the recovery of high levels of natural antioxidant protection at the retinal level.

Wyzium was designed based on studies(1) that were able to quantify and define in humans the antioxidant micronutrients essential for maintaining eye function.
(1) Large-scale studies (AREDS, POLA, AREDS 2, ALIENOR).

Antioxidants:

Vitamin E :   It protects membranes composed of polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are subject to oxidative stress (mainly at the mitochondrial level), preventing the proliferation of pyroxyl free radicals.
Vitamin C :   In addition to its natural antioxidant activity, it also exhibits vitamin E regenerative activity.
Zinc :   Present in high concentrations in ocular, retinal and choroidal tissues, zinc allows the transformation of vitamin A into light-capturing pigment and interacts with Taurine(1).
Taurine :   It is the most abundant amino acid in the lens and retina, protecting photoreceptor cells from the negative effects caused by ultraviolet radiation. Exogenous taurine supplementation ensures protective physiological levels, which naturally decrease with age(2).
Selenium :   It is essential for the proper functioning of enzymes (including glutathione peroxidase) that destroy free radicals.
Chromium :   It participates in maintaining eye function, improving carbohydrate metabolism in diabetic animals(3).

Carotenoid Pigments:

Lutein – Zeaxanthin :   Physiologically, these two amino acids are present in high concentrations in the retina and lens, absorbing blue light (the most toxic radiation frequency for the eye) and preventing the massive production of the highly damaging superoxide anion.   Daily intake of these two amino acids maintains or increases optical pigment density with maintenance or even improvement of visual performance, simultaneously allowing to compensate for the decrease (associated with advancing age) in the natural conversion of lutein and zeaxanthin (4).

SOD B ExtramelR : The Superoxide dismutase selected for the Wyzium formulation incorporates gastric acid protection to ensure its activity/bioavailability even when administered orally. Upon reaching the intestinal lumen, Superoxide dismutase will activate the Nrf2/ARE pathway and from there ensure the endogenous expression of the three (3) most important antioxidant enzymes directly involved in the first line of defense against the superoxide anion: Superoxide dismutase, Catalase and Glutathione peroxidase(5)(6)(7).

This supplementation ensures the optimal recovery of natural antioxidant defenses, even helping to delay the harmful effects of diabetes on the metabolism of the eyeball and therefore on vision.
